The Welcome Corps is committed to ensuring the safety of its volunteers and the individuals it serves. Every member of your private sponsor group must complete the required background check through Sterling Volunteers.
Each group member must create their own account with Sterling Volunteers. If you submit your background check under someone else’s account, you will be asked to complete an additional background check. For detailed instructions on completing your background check, see the step-by-step User Guide.
Background check essentials
- Use your current legal name. When completing the background check, enter your current legal name as it appears on your government-issued ID.
- Ensure consistency with application. The information you provide on your background check, including your current legal name, must match the information submitted on your group’s application. Nicknames or shortened names are not accepted and could cause delays in processing your application.
- Ensure your background check is connected to Welcome Corps. When you initiate your background check by clicking the “Begin Background Check” button above, your background check will automatically be connected to Welcome Corps. If you initiate a background check separately, you will be prompted to enter a GOOD DEED code upon account creation. Use the code wcorps4 to connect the background check to Welcome Corps.
- If you already completed your background check and need to connect it to Welcome Corps, follow the steps in this guide, or contact Sterling Volunteers at 855-326-1860 or by email at client.support@sterlingcheck.com. Be ready to provide the last 4 digits of the Social Security Number and the Date of Birth to verify the account. The individual sponsor group member should call or email Sterling themselves when inquiring about their background check.
